stay in the storm

Updated: Jul 30, 2020

'God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM" this is what you say to the Israelite, 'I AM sent me to you" Exodus 3:14

I AM what? This term shows up in the bible 300 times, 'I AM the way, the truth and the life', 'I AM the vine and you are the branches', 'I AM the bread of life.'

Every time God was declaring this statement He was declaring his existence, He was declaring He was omnipresent, omniscient, that He has always existed.

If God is all-knowing and all-powerful then why do certain things in the world happen? Why do natural disasters happen? Why do people's lives get taken by freak accidents? Why does racism and sexism still exist in the world? If God knows absolutely everything, then why doesn't He say to stay home before getting into a car that will crash, why doesn't He close the door to the boy that ends up breaking your heart? Why doesn't He stop the waves from crashing on the isolated island that has no way of getting relief?

Now this is something I don't have the answer for, but what I do know is that God never said life would be easy. God never said that following Him would take away our hurt and suffering, that we would never experience pain. However, God did say we'd never be alone in our pain and our heartbreak.

'Jesus wept' is the shortest yet one of the most meaningful Bible verses in the book. God knows and feels our pain, He sympathizes with us and mourns with us. Of course God doesn't put us in situations to get hurt but He will take the situation and shed light to it.

Maybe it's been years since you've opened up your Bible and He will use that opportunity to comfort you, maybe when you go to God still praising Him in the worst times, it'll show someone else how greatly they need Him. Or maybe you just need a taste of His peace once again before you give up on your life.

A storm (or many) will happen in your time on earth and sometimes you can't see the other side, but He does. In the book of Acts, chapter 27, there's a sailing journey where they come across a storm. The men were frightened that they wouldn't make it out, but an angel appeared and said 'Do not be afraid.' The men held onto that statement and remained faithful. 14 days passed with no food or water 'till they got a glimpse of land. Although, by the end the ship was completely destroyed however the men landed on shore safely as all they had left were planks and other pieces of the boat.

Stay in the storm. Stay faithful in the storm. God declared 'I AM" I AM more than your fears, I AM more than your addiction, I AM more than your heartbreak, I AM more than your past.
