traveling locally

Let's be honest, I think we are all missing adventure in our life right now. I miss waking up for the 5am flights, the smell of airports, cramming your too-packed carry-on into the overhead bin.

I can spend hours online looking up flights to different destinations, creating itineraries, finding unique places to explore, but as of right now you can't really determine a date to leave. With travel on pause we still have to find adventure in the every-day life! Here are some ideas to bring a bit of that in your day.

  1. Order takeout from a specific country cuisine. Been wanting to explore the Mediterranean? Order from a Greek restaurant. Wanting to eat like the locals in Asia? Order from your neighbourhood Thai restaurant. Middle East? Order some Lebanese. A perk of ordering food like this, you'll likely be supporting a small local restaurant.

  2. Discover a new area of your city you've never been before, seek out new neighbourhoods, take a walk along a trail or depending on restrictions go find new cafes/restaurants.

  3. Depending on where you live, you can take a day to go to the beach, go for a hike, go snowboarding/skiing, skating, something that gets you outside!

  4. Get out of your comfort zone, try a new hobby. Learn a new language, pick up a new sport, take a go at photography, start playing a musical instrument. Something you could use in your future travels.

  5. Pick out a cute outfit (or 3) and go take cute photos somewhere! Spice up your insta feed as if you were abroad

  6. Workout, do yoga, start running. Great way to keep your mental state high as well as gain confidence for your next beach vacay ;)

  7. Book a hotel room in your city. Have a mini staycation with your cohort, get some wine, make a charcuterie board and play some games.

  8. Dream. Dream of the places you want to go next, make a list, create a budget on how to start saving.

I sincerely can't wait for the day we'll be able to board a flight somewhere exotic, till then, use some of these tips to help keep your gypsea soul excited.
