properly pack a carry-on

Updated: Jan 23, 2020

What you have in your carry-on is what can make/break your trip (maybe that's me being extra but you never know what you need). These are the items you'll always find in my carry-on!

- iPhone Charger

- Sleep Mask

- Face Moisturizer

- Lip Chap

- Pens

- Laptop & Laptop Charger (location dependant)

- Toiletry Bag (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant)

- Body Spray

- Gum

- Foundation Powder

- Scarf

- Face Wipes

- Gravel

- An outfit incase luggage is lost

- Bikini if you're hitting up the beach

Normally I only use a carry-on when I travel because I'm frugal and don't want to pay $30 for my bag, nor do I like waiting for my bag. So packing for an entire trip (even a 3 month trip) is possible in a carry-on. When I backpack I find I end up using only 10% of my bag, and maybe I'm just disgusting and wear the same clothes numerous days in a row but I'm all about the simple life. This is what I'll pack for a trip using just a carry-on including most things above:

- Shampoo and conditioner bars from lush

- 2 pairs of shorts 1 pair of leggings and 1 pair of jeans

- 3 tank tops 2 t-shirts 1 sweater

- 4 bikinis 1 bathing suit cover

- 10 days worth of undergarments

- 1 pair of sandals 1 pair of runners 1 pair of cute shoes

- 1 dress 1 romper

- 1 scoop of laundry detergent for every week of travelling (laundry once a week)

- Bandaids

- Baby wipes

- Dry Shampoo from lush (not aerosol can)

- Adapters for the proper country

- 1 rain jacket (or poncho if you don't care what you look like)

- Any medication you need

- If you can get away with it, pack bralette's over bra's, they are easier to pack and/or sports bras

- Spandex shorts and baggy t-shirt for sleeping

- Plastic bag for dirty clothes

- Dryer sheets so your bag don't smell bad lol

As I wrote this I'm actually shocked I fit all of this in a backpack but it's possible. Rolling your clothes is a life saver for sure! This list isn't for every trip, it all depends on where you are travelling to. For Asia you'll want warmer climate clothes, for Europe you'll want cute, aesthetic outfits. For South America it all depends on the season and if you're hitting up the Carribean you'll most likely be living in a bikini.

You'll need to buy some things that can't get past security in your carry-on like a razor or a large sunscreen but those type of things are very accessible! Just make sure you always have your passport packed!
